FTPGI sends protest letter to broadcast ministry
Nov 16th 2013, 15:05

Many were surprised with the recent release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus Ram-Leela, which was later renamed as Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela. The name was changed as a result of an order passed by the Delhi High Court w.r.t. a petition filed against the film accusing it of hurting religious sentiments. The petition also said that since the term 'Ram Leela' is associated with Lord Ram and movie-goers would expect a religious film.

This was just one of the many examples that have rubbed the film industry in the wrong way. That's why the Film and Television Producers Guild of India (FTPGI) has now dashed off a letter to Manish Tewari (Minister for Information & Broadcasting) requesting that, "Any challenge to the release of a film, which has been duly certified as fit for public exhibition by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), disregards the legal sanctity and competence of the certificate granted by the CBFC." Besides this, the said letter also spoke about the litigations that any movie faces and which are initiated strategically just before the release of a film. The letter also stated that, "We would therefore like to register our strong protest with the Government of India and request you to extend your full support to curb such moves."
